The highly-awaited second season of the musical adult cartoon Hazbin Hotel launches on the streaming platform this week, and audience theories has been widespread.
The first season presents a diverse group of personalities living within Hell and Heaven, pits them against each other accompanied by musical numbers about their clashes, and establishes tense rivalries and angsty, affectionate connections that drive audience devotion.
The fandom's stated hopes for season 2 differ greatly, but certain themes emerge over and over: Will a fan-favorite character escape his tormentor? Might we learn more about the binding agreement constraining the enigmatic Alastor? Might certain characters' relationships evolve?
"Obviously, I don't make the show with fan service specifically in mind," the creator stated earlier this year. "However I feel like me being a fan of my own show means there's a lot of it just naturally. I also want to see these things, and I hope some of these things to occur, and obviously some of these things are meant to happen in the show!"
The creator reveals her big-picture plan is for a five-season run of Hazbin Hotel. Future installments have received approval by the production companies, which finance the series.
That might mean fans have to wait years for some of the biggest payoffs — but they could be shocked at how quickly the new season progresses, and how much of what they're waiting for happens now.
"I feel like people are going to get a lot out of it," the creator notes. "There are several debut moments. I think we receive some really amazing disclosures, some really cool backstories, and even just simple things, [like] I hope this character gets a song. […] Audiences will experience additional musical numbers from the characters we didn't get to hear before."
She's certainly aware of the guesses and hopes about season 2 — especially in the format of fan bingo cards.
"I've come across a few fans make a bingo card about the new season," she mentions. "Obviously I won't share it, but I've actually done some of them, and almost all of them have almost a bingo. I was like, Oh, if you put this [event] in this spot, it would be a bingo. So that leads me to believe we do a lot [of what fans are waiting for in this season], because I was like, Oh, there's multiple potential bingos on this card. So that brings me joy."
Hazbin Hotel season 2 launches on Prime Video on October 29.
