Since the launch of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with deep backstory, a wide array of characters, and a exciting storyline including celestial beings, demons, and sinister influences increasing in strength within Dol-Makjar.
Warning: Spoilers for the latest installment of Campaign 4 follow below.
The Warrior Group Introduced
Episode 3 finished on a dramatic pause and introduced the first table of characters who will split off from the central cast to begin their own adventure, distinct from the other two tables.
This warrior group consists of the determined fighter (portrayed by Travis), the nimble rogue (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (Whitney Moore), Wicander (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (Robbie).
Why Split the Party?
Considering a large ensemble, it was obvious from the beginning that maintaining everyone at one table would be unworkable.
That’s why, the opening chapters of the new season serve as an Introduction, intertwining the characters’ stories before branching into three smaller tables: Fighters, Planners, and Explorers.
What Defines the Soldiers Table
As described by the DM, the Soldiers table is for participants who are drawn to a typically action-packed combat and conflict-driven narrative style where non-violent answers are scarce.
Upon first impression, characters like the hesitant healer Wicander might seem unsuited, but the actions of the latest installment demonstrate why these particular heroes are perfectly fit for the warrior group.
Why They Must Go
First, the group knows exactly where to go next after a brutal opening clash with the enemy group.
Casimir of Thjazi Fang—whose death initiated the campaign’s events—exploited the enemy for his selfish purposes, invading Thjazi’s hideout, striking Thimble, and stealing all the magical artifacts to dispose of.
Casimir then cleared his debts and escaped to a Halovar stronghouse in the remote area, north of the city, with Cyd pursuing him.
Personal Motivations
Additionally, each character has a individual motive to depart the urban setting:
- The rogue, as the companion and closest confidant, wants retribution.
- The adventurer knows Timmony and cautions that it is a nasty place.
- The warrior and Wicander, having defied his house’s orders to eliminate the target and instead rescued him, have no safe haven.
- However, their status as important members in the influential clan could help the team reach places they usually can’t.
- Furthermore, The grateful character pledged a unbreakable promise to The cleric for his salvation and will now accompany him everywhere.
Wanted and Hunted
In addition, all of them are sought by the authorities that control Dol-Makjar for a variety of reasons, making lingering locally dangerous:
- The agile adventurer and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
- Tyranny and The healer betrayed the powerful family and the legion of demons they are partnered with.
- The fighter is targeted for elimination by House Halovar.
This means them few options but to journey toward the northern region in quest for the antagonist.
What’s Next?
Based on the recent installment’s follow-up content, we discover that the combat party won’t be around the following episode, leaving the remaining eight players to round up the Seekers and Planners parties.
Fans can look forward to discovering which players will be in which group in the story’s concluding setup installment, streaming live on the upcoming Thursday.
